University of Saint Joseph Sponsors the 11th Annual 5 x 5 Dance Festival

HARTFORD, CONN. (October 2, 2013) – The University of Saint Joseph will present
the Eleventh Annual 5 x 5 Dance Festival
featuring four collegiate ensembles and seven professional companies on October
18-19, 2013. The event showcases performances on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.
and also includes a master class for dance students and the community on
Saturday at 10 a.m. The festival will take place in the Bruyette Athenaeum's
Hoffman Auditorium located on the University of Saint Joseph’s West Hartford
campus at 1678 Asylum Ave.

Tickets for each evening showcase performance: $20
Adult, $15 Senior Citizen, $10 Youth. Discount ticket packages are available
for both evening showcase performances: $30 adult, $20 Senior Citizen. For more information, call the Frances Driscoll Box

  • The 5 x 5 Dance Festival kicks off with a
    showcase on Friday, October 18 at 7 p.m.



 




  • The event continues with a showcase
    on Saturday, October 19 at 7 p.m.

    and will feature original choreography from four collegiate ensembles: University
    of Saint Joseph, Central Connecticut State University, Eastern Connecticut
    State University, Trinity College, and seven professional companies: dancEnlight,
     Exit 12 Dance Company, Ballet
    Theatre Company, Attak, Cristin Crawley and The Nadine Project, and Earl
    Mosley.



 




  • A
    master class will be offered on Saturday, October 19, from 10 a.m. – 2
    p.m.
    Master classes will be offered for dance students
    and the community of Saturday, October 19. Classes will be held from 10 a.m.
    to 2  p.m. in the Bruyette
    Athenaeum. Classes will feature master teachers from the presenting dance
    companies in the festival's performances. Master classes are $15 per class
    or $40 for three classes.



 



The goals of the 5 x 5 Dance
Festival are to provide opportunities for interface and sharing among
pre-professional and professional artists; to foster a collaborative spirit
among dance companies; to provide Connecticut dance audiences with a festival
offering multiple dance genres and diverse cultures. Audience talk-backs with
choreographers and dancers will follow the performances.
