What is WHTM?

The West Hartford Toastmasters is a welcoming, supportive public speaking club that is all about increasing your communication skills, personal growth and acquiring leadership skills. We're a part of a great worldwide International Toastmasters organization that features speakers from the beginner level all the way up to the very best in the world.

Whether you're in business, politics or some other career that requires public speaking at meetings and conventions or you just want to gain more confidence and acquire talents that can apply to just about any area of your life, Toastmasters is for you.

We provide support at every level. You are provided manuals that teach you how to perform and write every kind of speech possible. With each speech assignment, you are taught new skills essential to today's public speaking demands. Then you get kind and helpful feedback after giving each speech, so you can do even better the next time!

Aside from giving speeches from time to time, you will have the opportunity, at club meetings, to take on a variety of roles - from that of Toastmaster (which will teach you the skills you need to lead a meeting), to evaluator, humor master, invocator and many other roles typically in demand for public meetings.

Our Table Topics segment is always fun and creative. There, those who are asked to participate must give a short impromptu speech on a topic given them on the fly by the Table Topics Master (another role you will take from time to time; and you have free reign to test your imagination in coming up with Table Topics ideas). Whether you're participating or just listening, that's hugely entertaining!

Don't be shy! We all began as nervous beginners - so let us help you get beyond all that, to realize your personal goals. We are the most welcoming and friendly group you'll ever meet!
