This morning we welcome as our guest speaker Emmy Award-winner Anita Ford Saunders, director of Marketing and Communications for The United Way of Central and Northeastern CT.
A veteran in the communication and public relations profession, with 30 years
experience creating and implementing strategic communications plans for
corporate and community organizations.
Before her position at the United Way, Anita joined Yankee Gas as Manager of Communications after a decade as owner and principal consultant of Anita Ford Saunders Communication a mission-related strategic public relations firm.
Prior to starting the business she served as Sr. Comm. Officer &
later Sr. Comm. Consultant for the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving
responsible for strategic planning and management of public relations and
communications.
Prior to this position, Anita served as Vice President of
Corporate Communications for CPTV responsible for promotional strategies and
campaigns. She led promotion for the premier of UConn Women’s Basketball, which
won a CT Innovation Award. Anita perfected her craft at WFSB-TV 3, WVIT-NBC 30
and TV stations in DC, MI, and MA.
Her collaborative work earned her Gold and Silver Mercury Awards from the CT Valley Chapter of PRSA. She has won three Emmys in Broadcasting. In May 2001, Anita received a first place award for excellence in journalism from the Society for Professional Journalist.
She has earned the designation of APR, Accredited in Public Relations, from the
Universal Accreditation Board of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).

She is a past Pres. of the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence
(CCADV) board of directors and recently served on the boards of the Community
Foundation for Middlesex County, the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy and
was a past president of the Connecticut Valley Chapter of the Public Relations
Society of America. She presently serves on the board of The Fund for Greater
Hartford and was recently elected to the National Board of Directors of PRSA.
