Yale's World Affairs Scholars to Speak at West Hartford Library

A new series of world affairs lectures, called Country-by-Country, will feature scholars from Yale’s MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies. They will visit the West Hartford Public Library to discuss "one country at a time."

• The series begins with Prof. Jeremy Seekings speaking about SOUTH AFRICA on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. Professor Seekings is the Director of the Centre for Social Science Research, University of Cape Town, South Africa (www.cssr.uct.ac.za/researchers/seekings). He has undergraduate degrees in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford, an Honours degree in African Politics from the University of the Witwatersrand, and a D.Phil in Politics from Oxford.

• On Thursday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m., Prof. Brian J. Fried will present the program, “BRAZIL, Land of the Future?” Dr. Fried has done extensive fieldwork during Brazil’s 2012 electoral campaign, and has received a BS in Economics from Duke University, MA from the Univ. of Chicago, and Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University.

• On Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 6 p.m., Prof. Joseph LaPolombara will talk about contemporary ITALY. The acclaimed scholar believes that Italians have forged a remarkable democracy, with toleration, freedom and political inventiveness. Dr. LaPolombara is the Arnold Wolfers Professor of Political Science and Management Emeritus, and a Senior Research Scholar in the Center for Comparative Research.
