Mentors Wanted!

The Y strives to be open, accessible and welcoming to all. Engaging underserved communities enables the Y to increase impact and outreach amongst all segments of society towards our cause of strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

We are currently recruiting exceptional leaders as volunteer mentors to provide support to our part-time staff through our Bridging the Gap Mentoring Program.  In order to do this, we need strong mentors to work with staff and model those skill sets necessary to achieve successful career development goals.

The foundation of the Bridging the Gap Mentoring Program for part-time staff will focus on:

  • Developing professional and cultural competencies
  • Pursuing higher education and other educational opportunities
  • Preparing to interview for full-time positions
  • Supporting volunteer engagement opportunities

Mentor participation expectations include the following:  

  • Candidates who possess tenure and/or maturity to successfully serve as a mentor.
  • Committed to diversity & inclusion.  
  • Agree to participate and remain actively engaged in the "Bridging the Gap" pilot program through the end of the pilot project (Dec. 2014), including attendance at all group activities with the possibility of future involvement
  • Meet with mentee monthly (1-2 hours per month), (or more if desired & agreed upon by both mentor/mentee)  Meetings are ideally 'in-person', can be via telephone, to establish a working relationship and support mentee in their professional development goals
  • Participate and take full advantage of all available webinars, orientation, trainings and networking opportunities
  • Provide support and guidance, as well as positive and constructive feedback to mentee
  • Be transparent and willing to share your experiences, information and social capital with your mentee
  • Maintain confidentiality of information with the mentee
  • Serve as a positive role model
  • Show demonstrated support for multicultural leadership development, diversity,      inclusion and global programs. 
  • Commit to submitting video/written program impact testimonials if you receive scholarships to attend national trainings/events
