A Short Walk Goes A Long Way

A three mile stroll could end up going the extra mile towards the detection and prevention of a disease that affects more than 26 million Americans. More than 800 people are expected to step up for the Kidney Walk and help raise funds to support those who already have chronic kidney disease and the millions more at risk. The non-competitive Kidney Walk will be held on Sunday, June 12, at the University of Hartford in West Hartford.  Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the Walk starts at 9 a.m.

The Walk, which is being hosted for the third year by the University of Hartford, will feature live music from WDRC-FM, and Lauren Petty, news anchor of NBC Connecticut will serve as master of ceremonies. To take the first step and register for the event, sign up online at www.kidneywalk.org or call the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) at 1-800-441-1280. On site registration will also be accepted. All walkers are encouraged to raise at least $100. The Kidney Walk is sponsored by Hartford, Hospital, ING, NBC Connecticut, University of Hartford, and102.9 DRC- FM.

“Funds raised from the Kidney Walk will help us provide education to those at risk, free kidney health screenings and much more. I encourage people to form teams with their families, friends and colleagues to help fight kidney disease,” said Filomena Fiore, NKF development director.
