A Tribute to Civil War Quilts

April 12, commemorates the 150th anniversary of The Civil War. Quilts played a vital role in this time period through the efforts of women. This program by award-winning Connecticut artisan Jo Hansling highlights the role of quilts with discussion on the following key points: Northern & Southern women's contributions; Clara Barton, humanitarian and American Red Cross pioneer; Secret messages in the "Underground Railroad" quilt patterns for runaway slaves and Harriet Tubman, humanitarian, abolitionist. Quilt samples will be on display to showcase the various designs used for different causes.
