Mandell JCC and One Book One Jewish Hartford Celebrates Home in the Morning with Author Mary Glickman, April 9, 2012

One Book One Jewish Hartford returns to the Mandell JCC with Home in the Morning author Mary Glickman on Monday, April 9, 2012 at 7:30 pm in the Chase Family Gallery at the Mandell JCC, Zachs Campus, 335 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, CT. Glickman will discuss her inspirations behind the novel and participate in a book signing.

Home in the Morning is a riveting debut novel that takes place in the tumultuous 1960’s, and traces the ways that race, prejudice, family and love intertwine to shape our lives. Reviews of the novel liken it to “The Chosen meets The Help.” “Mary Glickman displays great skill in interweaving different decades and locales into a moving love story that is also an insightful exploration of the complexities and confusions that result from clashing cultural norms” commented Lisa Alther, bestselling author of Kinflicks. In February 2012, Glickman’s newest novel, One More River, was number one in Literary Fiction on Amazon and number five in overall Kindle downloads. One More River was also a 2011 National Jewish Book Award finalist.

Originally from the south shore of Boston, Massachusetts, Glickman was one of seven children from a traditional Irish-Polish Catholic family. She became interested in the Old Testament and started what would become a lifelong relationship with the Jewish culture. After marrying her husband, she fully converted to Judaism and worked as a treasurer and secretary for her synagogue. Her love for the Southern culture arose from her time in Seabrook Island, South Carolina, where she and her husband now reside.
