New Date for Mandell JCC Jewish Book Festival Senator Joe Lieberman Event Monday, November 14, 2011

(Tuesday, November 8, 2011, West Hartford) Senator Joe Lieberman’s opening appearance at the Mandell JCC Jewish Book Festival has been moved up one day to Monday, November 14, 2011, 7:30 p.m., instead of the previously announced date. All sold tickets will be honored and tickets at $20 per person are still available at the Mandell JCC Box Office at 860-231-6316, tickets@mandelljcc.org, or online at www.mandelljcc.org. Tickets are also available in person at the Mandell JCC Member Services Center, Zachs Campus, 335 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford, CT 06117, 860-236-4571 and will be sold at the door. Senator Joe Lieberman will discuss his new book, The Gift of Rest, written with David Klinghoffer. The Gift of Rest offers readers of all faiths insight on how the observance of the Sabbath had anchored and inspired the Senator’s life. The book serves as both a personal and political memoir with suggestions for introducing the Sabbath into the reader’s own life.

Senator Lieberman is in his fourth and final term representing Connecticut in the United States Senate. The 2000 Democratic vice-presidential candidate, and running mate of Al Gore, became the first Jew in American history to run for national office on a major-party ticket. He was born in Stamford, CT, and received his bachelor’s degree from Yale College in 1964. He earned his law degree from Yale Law School in 1967.

Senator Lieberman was first elected to the United States Senate in 1988; he scored the nation’s biggest political upset that year. He is considered one of Congress’s most influential voices on security issues, and is a firm believer in equal opportunity for all Americans. The Senator plans to retire from the United States Senate in January 2013.  Senator Lieberman lives in Stamford, CT and Washington, DC with his wife Hadassah. Together they are the proud parents of four children and eleven grandchildren.

2nd Annual Great Children’s Read, Sunday, November 13, 2011

The 2nd Annual Great Children’s Read will take place on Sunday, November 13, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event is a day of free fun for book-loving families. Local personalities will read children’s classics and PJ Library favorites, and the Mandell JCC Youth Theater will perform scenes from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. There will also be a family sing-a-long with Jen Ludgin of Kindermusik, and book inspired arts and crafts with guest experts from The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art.
