The Children's Museum Closed June 20-23 for upgrades, improvements

The Children’s Museum will be closed from Monday, June 20 through Thursday, June 23, 2011 to allow for the installation of new carpeting, upgrades to the NBC Connecticut World Weather Window exhibit, some repainting and an overall freshening up of the exhibit spaces.

The NBC Connecticut World Weather Window exhibit has offered children the opportunity to practice their own forecasts related to specific types of weather events that occur in New England. The exhibit's new features give the Weather Window a fresh look and feel.   Children will have the chance to interact with NBC Connecticut’s new state-of-the-art weather maps and graphics.  Also, new introductions by NBC Connecticut news anchors Keisha Grant and Gerry Brooks will give children the realistic feel of what it’s like to be on an award-winning news team.

“NBC Connecticut is proud to partner with The Children’s Museum to provide an interactive exhibit that teaches children the wonders of weather. No matter your age, weather is an integral part of everyday life,” said NBC Connecticut President and General Manager, David Doebler.

More than 12,000 square feet of lightly used carpet tiles, donated by Aetna, will be installed by staff and volunteers during that time period. “We are grateful to Aetna for the carpeting, and to the staff and volunteers who will help with sprucing up the Museum,” said Interim Director Don Peterson. “We are excited about these upgrades, and look forward to visitors’ reactions when they see our new look.” Areas of the museum will be repainted in colors complementary to the new carpeting.

Roaring Brook Nature Center in Canton remains open on its normal schedule during this time. The Museum will reopen at 9:00am on Friday, June 24, 2011.
