West Hartford Pumpkin Carnival and Halloween Stroll Scheduled for Saturday

Twelfth-annual event is sponsored by the Moms & More Club.

The 12th annual Pumpkin Carnival and Halloween Stroll, sponsored by the Moms & More Club of West Hartford, will be held Saturday morning.

The Pumpkin Carnival, which is scheduled from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Town Hall parking lot this year, according to Jen McDonagh, director of the Moms & More Club of West Hartford.

Because of the number of children the event draws - some 1,600 last year - Pumpkin Carnival has been moved from the Whole Foods parking lot.

“It is very popular,” McDonagh said. “We get kids from all around the surrounding West Hartford area. The 1,600 treat bags donated by Whole Foods last year ran out in 25 minutes. We’re hoping for same [number of kids].”

The event will have the YMCA of West Hartford hosting games, the Art Truck and a fire truck from the West Hartford Fire Department. There will also be vendors selling their wares, McDonagh said.

Several mascots, including Sonar from the Hartford Wolf Pack and Howie the Hawk from the University of Hartford, will also make appearances.

The Halloween Stroll, which is scheduled from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., will be held in Blue Back Square and West Hartford Center.

Kids will be able to go to stores taking part in the event to go Trick-or-Treating.

The New York Sports Club will have a Halloween-themed room set up, while Generation Y is hosting a party afterward, McDonagh said.

“It’s a great day of fun for kids, parents and the stores,” McDonagh said. “It’s really a great Halloween/fall celebration in the morning. What could be better?”
