STORRS, Conn.—Senior Jordan Badenko posted a runner-up finish at the 2013 UConn Invite Sunday, pacing the University of Hartford men's tennis team at the tournament. The senior won his first two matches in the tournament's top flight to earn his spot in Sunday's final match.
Badenko opened his finals run with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Bryant's Abdullah Mohsen in the Flight 1 quarterfinals Friday afternoon. In Saturday's semifinal, the native of Sydney, Australia fell behind early, dropping the first set, 7-5, to Wayne Harrell of the host Huskies. However, Badenko took the second set, 6-4, to force a tiebreak. The senior wrapped up a trip to the finals with a 10-7 decision in the tiebreak.
In the final, Badenko again fell behind in the first set before winning the second to force another tiebreak. Quinnipiac's Kei Ezaka took the lead with a 6-1 win in the first, but Badenko struck back with a 6-4 win of his own in the second frame. Badenko was unable to convert in the tiebreak, taking second place after a dropping a 10-8 result in the deciding set.
In consolation play, freshman Morgan White came through for the Hawks in Flight 7. White dispatched UConn's Parker Cohen, 8-2, in his first consolation match. The rookie then handled Sacred Heart's Alex Bose in the consolation final by an 8-1 count.
