WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Hartford women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of the Fairfield Stags, 2-1, on Thursday at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium. Hartford's (1-1-2) lone goal came from senior striker Natasha Douglas in the 31st minute.

Douglas' second goal of the season came off a failed clear attempt from the Stags. Fairfield keeper Kathleen Early had her clear ricochet off of Douglas and roll to the back of the net for the Jamaican striker's team leading second goal of the season.

Hartford looked to have an opportunity 20 minutes into the action when the Hawks were awarded a free kick 35 yards off the end line straight off the top left corner of the box. Kristen McAdams bullet was blocked away and cleared by the Stags defense.

Just under four minutes later Chanel Johnson was able to corral a bad clear attempt by the Stags defense and had an open look at net from the top of the 18-yard box. Her shot forced Fairfield keeper Kathleen Early to make a diving stop to her right, just able to get the ball over the end line for a Hawks corner kick.

The Stags evened the score in the 36th minute working off of their sixth corner kick. After Nikki Stanton served the ball in the Stags had a pair of shots just off the end line blocked out by Hartford defense, but Megan O'Brien was able to break a shot through to the lower right corner for her first goal of the season.

Fairfield had a pair of opportunities one minute apart in the 54th and 55th minutes. The first was a shot from the right side of Koerkenmeier that deflected off the opposite post. Forty-eight seconds later Carley Bayer had a shot from five yards out that Koerkenmeier collected her second stop of the night as she used a kick save propelling the shot out of bounds.

The Hawks had an opportunity in the 68th minute when Sidney Spremullo fired a pass across the end line were Elise Galipo provided a header shot that went wide of the goal on the right. Galipo looked to return the favor a few minutes later but her cross was broken up by Early on the two yards off the line ending the opportunity.

Fairfield marched down the field for an opportunity of their own with just under 16 minutes remaining. Beyar fired her second shot of the night on goal but Koerkenmeier read the angle and collapsed on the shot for her third save of the evening.

With just under 10 minutes remaining Galipo had a one-on-two opportunity and fired a shot straight away from 30 yards out. Early was able to make the save but couldn't control the rebound which resulted in a Hartford throw in.

The Stags put the go-ahead goal on the board with 68 seconds remaining in regulation as Nikki Stanton provided a chip pass over the Hawks defensive line. Ashley Small controlled the pass and was able to push a shot over the line on the right side of the Hartford keeper, just out of her reach.
