Douglas' Three Goals Leads to Player of the Week Honors

AMERICA EAST RELEASE

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Striker Natasha Douglas was named America East Player of the Week on Monday, September 30, after scoring a pair of game-winning goals against Sacred Heart and Albany last week.  The Kingston, Jamaica native leads Hartford with 11 points on five goals and an assist.

Douglas opened the week with the first of three goals against the Sacred Heart Pioneers, combining with junior Chanel Johnson for the marker. That goal, which came early in the game, turned out to be the game-winning tally as Hartford shutout its seventh opponent in 2013.

In the league opener at Albany, Douglas scored the game-tying and game-winning goals eight minutes apart, sparking a come from behind victory over the Great Danes. In the 60th minute, Douglas out ran three defenders on a looping pass from 80 yards away off the boot of defender Amanda Hamilton and blasted a shot into the top right corner of the net on a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper.

For the second score, Douglas connected with defender Emma Donnelly on a similar attempt as the first goal. Donnelly sent a long pass from midfield that Douglas beat a pair of defenders to. With the Albany keeper out of the six-yard box to play the ball, Douglas beat everyone and angled a shot to the opposite corner swinging the momentum in the Hawks favor.
