Hawks Cross Country Releases 2013 Slate

2013 HARTFORD CROSS COUNTRY SCHEDULE

WEST HARTFORD, Conn.—University of Hartford cross country head coach Steve Walsh announced the schedule for the upcoming 2013 season Tuesday. The slate includes six meets prior to the America East Championship meet in Vestal, N.Y., November 2.

"This is one of the most challenging schedules Hartford has had recently, but it is also one of the most exciting," Walsh said about the 2013 slate. "We have a strong group of upperclassmen returning as well as a talented group of incoming freshman, and these meets will give us some amazing competitive opportunities to help bring the team to the next level and prepare for America East and the NCAA Regional meet, which are always the focus of our season."

The Hawks open the season on the morning of September 7 when they head to New York City's Van Cortlandt Park for the Fordham Fiasco. After a two-week break, the Hawks run the first of their two meets in the Nutmeg State at Central Connecticut State's Ted Owen Invitational. The September 21 meet will be run at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn.

The cross country teams then head to Boston, Mass., for the Boston College Invitational at Franklin Park September 27. In addition to running against conference foe New Hampshire, the Hawks will go up against some of the top programs in the nation at the meet, including Oregon, Wisconsin, Providence College and host Boston College. The Oregon and Providence women finished first and second at the 2012 national championship while Boston College took 19th. On the men's side, Wisconsin was the national runner-up and Oregon finished 20th.

The Hawk squads return to Franklin Park October 12 for the New England Championship. They then take on a traditionally deep field at the Princeton Invitational, one of the top meets in the Northeast, October 19. The teams then make their second appearance at Stanley Quarter Park October 25 for the CCSU Mini Meet in their final tune up before the conference championship.

Binghamton University will host the 2013 America East Cross Country Championship on November 2 in Vestal, N.Y. There the Hawks will look to improve on last year's championship performances in which then-junior Andrew Dwyer earned All-Conference honors with a ninth-place finish for the Hawk men while the women's team took seventh place overall.
