Kirton Double Double Leads Hawks over Quinnipiac in Four

HAMDEN, Conn. – The University of Hartford volleyball team closed out its 16-macth non-conference with a four-set (25-19, 23-25, 25-12, 25-22) victory over the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Wednesday night. The Hawks were led by senior Dionna Kirton who finished with a season-best 15 kills and 18 digs for her third double double of the season.

Kirton's 15 kills led all players in the match while she finished the match with a .371 hitting average with two errors in 35 total attacks. Her 18 digs is the second most this season for the outside hitter from Everett, Wash.

Joining Kirton in leading Hartford (6-10 overall) was junior Maya Louis who finished with 10 kills, her second match as a Hawk with double figure kills. Louis led all players in the match with a .400 hitting percentage with two errors in 20 attempts. She also led Hartford with five of the team's seven total blocks on three solo blocks and a pair of block assists.

As a team, Hartford finished the match hitting .221 with 50 total kills and 20 errors in 136 attempts. Junior setter Jackie Tamburri finished the match with 41 assists, her third match in the last five with 40 or more assists. Also among the leading hitters for Hartford was sophomore Chandler Goodwin who finished with nine kills and a .273 hitting average.

Joining Kirton in leading the Hawks defensive efforts was freshman libero Paola Llerandi and senior outside hitter Sareeta Nethersole who finished with 17 and 15 digs, respectively. The 17 digs for Llerandi marks her fifth straight match with double figure digs and her second most since joining the Hawks this season.

The Hawks, who look to build on a season-long three match win streak,  will open up America East Conference action on Sunday when they travel to Providence College for a date with the Friars. Hartford and Providence are scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start at Alumni Hall.
