Lawrence Adds Fossner and Maguire to Coaching Staff

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Peter Lawrence, head coach of the men's lacrosse team at the University of Hartford, has announced the addition of two new staff members. Noah Fossner will join the staff as a full-time assistant coach while West Hartford native Ken Maguire comes on board as a volunteer assistant for the Hawks.

Coming off a two-year stint as a volunteer assistant coach at Rutgers, Fossner will serve as the Hawks' defensive coordinator and goalie coach. A 2011 graduate of the University of Delaware, Fossner enjoyed a stellar playing career for the Blue Hens, being named the team's MVP as a senior. A three-year starting goalie who also captained the team for three seasons, he led the Blue Hens to two straight CAA titles and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2010 and 2011.

Fossner capped off his career at Delaware by etching his name throughout the Blue Hens' record books. A health and physical education major, he is currently ranked No. 2 in minutes played (3,004), No. 3 in goals-against average (9.60) and No. 6 in total saves (552) at Delaware. In addition, at the conclusion of his career, Fossner was signed by the Ohio Machine of the Major League Lacrosse.

"Noah is a great addition to the Hartford family," declared Lawrence. He continued, "I believe the team will greatly benefit from his great attention to detail and focus."

During his time on the coaching staff at Rutgers, Fossner worked directly with Kris Alleyne, the 2013 BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year. That season, under Fossner's guidance, Alleyne ranked sixth in the nation in saves per game (13.93) and seventh among all NCAA Division I goalies in save percentage (.595). In addition, he mentored faceoff specialist Joe Nardella, who finished third in the NCAA in ground balls per game (8.43) and fifth in faceoff win percentage (.622) in 2013.

Maguire brings an extensive coaching background with him to Hartford after serving as the head coach of the men's lacrosse club teams at Central Connecticut and Sacred Heart while taking on a stint as a volunteer assistant coach at Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y. A 2010 graduate of Sacred Heart where he earned a Bachelor of Science in finance, he helped lead the university's club team to a pair of Metro Division 1 titles as well as a NCLL Elite Eight National Tournament appearance.

At Hartford, Maguire will manage the substitution box during games and will work specifically with the team's faceoff specialists during both practice and games. In addition, he will offer assistance to the Hawks' defense.

The Hawks return five of eight 2013 America East All-Conference Team members including four first-team honorees in midfielders Tate Klidonas and Alex Matarazzo, attackman Kevin O'Shea and goalie Frank Piechota. Also coming back for the upcoming 2014 season is faceoff specialist Adam Yee who was an America East All-Conference Second Team pick last season.
