MacKinnon Earns First Career Weekly Honor

View Complete America East Release

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – University of Hartford freshman David MacKinnon has been tabbed the America East Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. A goalkeeper on the men's soccer team, MacKinnon went 200 minutes without conceding a goal last week to help the Hawks to a 1-0-1 mark while earning his second and third career shutouts.

Hartford remains unbeaten in 2013 with a 3-0-2 record, marking the second-best start through five matches in the program's Division I history based on win percentage. The Hawks' best five-game start of 4-0-1 was posted in 1984, the program's inaugural season as a Division I member.

Earning Hartford's first weekly accolade of the season from the America East, MacKinnon combined for seven saves on the week, five of which came at UMass in a 1-0 win on Wednesday afternoon. The Easton, Mass., native then followed that effort by stopping a pair of shots on Friday evening to help the Hawks to a scoreless tie with American, the preseason favorite of the Patriot League.

Since making his college debut at halftime at Villanova on September 3, MacKinnon has been lights out, stopping all 12 shots on goal he has faced, a stretch of 355 minutes. Tied with three other goalkeepers and the only freshman among the list, he currently tops the nation with a 0.00 goals-against average and 1.000 save percentage.

MacKinnon anchors a back line that also features sophomores Jhamie Hyde and Blake Jones as well as juniors Damion Lowe and Rohan Roye. Collectively, the unit has allowed just one goal all season and ranks among the nation's best with a 0.18 team goals-against average. More impressively, the Hawks have not allowed a goal in their last 355 minutes and 53 seconds, a span that dates back to a late, first-half Villanova goal on September 3.

MacKinnon and the Hawks have two games on the docket this week, starting with a road match at Marist on Tuesday (7 p.m.). Hartford then returns home to host Harvard, wrapping up a series of four-straight Friday night home games at 7 p.m.
