WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Baseball America, one of the leading sources on college and professional scouting and player development, released its Top 50 prospect list for the 2014 Major League Baseball draft with Hartford's junior lefthander Sean Newcomb listed 19th. This honor follows up a late summer announcement of Newcomb among the top-10 prospects in the Cape Cod League.

Newcomb completed his second complete summer in the Cape league playing for the Wareham Gatemen. In the 43-game season, the junior lefthander made six appearances on the hill, starting in three games. Overall, he pitched 22.1 innings and allowed 12 runs, 11 earned. He gave up a total of 23 hits while striking out 28 batters, fourth most on the team.

Last season with the Hawks, Newcomb was named to the America East First Team All-Conference after breaking a pair of records in 2013. The Middleboro, Mass., native struck out a school record 92 batters in 2013 with 78 of those strikeouts coming in league play which set a conference record. His 92 strikeouts included a single-game career-high of 12 against Binghamton which was the most by a single pitched in the league in 2013.
