Poitras Brings on Wasserman as Director of Soccer Operations

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Tom Poitras, head coach of the men's soccer team at the University of Hartford, has announced that Max Wasserman will be joining his coaching staff as the Director of Operations. A native of the Nutmeg State, Wasserman joins Poitras' staff after enjoying an illustrious soccer career at UConn.

“Max is a great addition to our staff,” Poitras exclaimed. “He is a local guy who comes from a good club background at Oakwood Soccer Club and had a stellar career at UConn. He knows what it takes to have team success, reaching deep into the NCAA Tournament, and he knows the hard work it takes individually to develop from a red shirt year to getting drafted in Major League Soccer by Real Salt Lake. Max will have a positive influence on our players and program.”

During his career with the Huskies, Wasserman helped lead the team to four NCAA Tournament bids, including back-to-back quarterfinal appearances in 2011 and 2012. A midfielder who shifted to outside back for his final two seasons, he made 38 starts in 71 appearances while helping anchor a defense that ranked in the top-five among all Division I programs in goals-against average both years. In 2012, UConn ranked fourth nationally in goals-against average (0.53 GAA) while in 2011, the Huskies finished second in the country in both goals-against average (0.38)  and shutout percentage after posting 16 clean slates.

Wasserman also proved to be a threat on the offensive side of the pitch during his collegiate career. As a senior in 2012, Wasserman finished the season fourth on the team in points with 10, giving him 24 points on his career.

At the conclusion of his career at UConn, Wasserman was the 69th pick in the Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft when he was selected by the Real Salt Lake.

Prior to attending UConn, Wasserman lettered four years at the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Conn. Hailing from Farmington, Conn., he was an All-Conference, All-New England and All-State honoree at Loomis Chaffee who also earned All-American distinction from the NSCAA after captaining his squad for two seasons. In addition, Wasserman spent 11 seasons with the Oakwood Soccer Club where he led the team to five state championships.

Wasserman graduated from UConn in 2013 with a degree in psychology. A four-year coach with Select Soccer Academy who also worked with the Oakwood Soccer Club, Wasserman holds a NSCAA “E” License.
