Unbeaten Hawks Move up One Spot in NSCAA Regional Rankings

VIEW THE COMPLETE NSCAA REGIONAL POLL

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Hartford men's soccer team earned a tie on the road at Villanova on Tuesday and remained unbeaten in 2013 after taking down Siena, 1-0, at home on Friday night to earn the eighth spot in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Northeast Men's Poll, as announced on Monday afternoon. The Hawks (2-0-1) moved up one spot in the polls after checking-in at the nine spot at the conclusion of the season's opening week.

Hartford has two games on the slate for the upcoming week, starting off with a road tilt at UMass on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.). The week wraps up at home on Friday evening as the Hawks welcome American University for a 7 p.m. clash under the lights of Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium.

For the second-straight week, UConn tops the regional rankings after defeating former America East member Boston University, 1-0, to remain undefeated at 2-0-0. With a record of 3-1-0, St. John's remained at second in the poll while America East member UMBC, which has posted a region-best four wins, moved up one spot and now sits at third. League member Vermont entered the rankings in week two after scoring back-to-back wins over UMass and Colgate to improve to 3-0-1 while Stony Brook, which was eighth last week, dropped out of the polls this week.

Two different Hawks scored goals last week in a stretch that saw rookie keeper David MacKinnon make his college debut. With the score knotted at 1-1 at halftime at Villanova, MacKinnon was inserted into the lineup and has not allowed a goal since, going 110 minutes while making five saves during that stretch. In his first career start on Friday night, he earned his first shutout, helping his team defeat the Saints, 1-0.

Javoni Simms, a sophomore striker, scored Hartford's goal against the Wildcats in the 33rd minute while Damion Lowe, a junior defender, knocked in the game-winning goal on Friday night against Siena after connecting with forward David Bernhardsson on a corner kick. The Hawks have recorded one goal in each of their three games this season.

Tickets for Friday night's match against American are still available and can be purchased by calling the Malcom and Brenda Berman Athletics Ticket Office at 860.768.HAWK or by clicking here.
