West Hartford MDC Hazardous Waste Collection This Sunday

Get rid of dangerous household products June 16 from 8 a.m. through 1 p.m.

The Metropolitan District Commission will hold a household hazardous waste collection day for West Hartford on June 16 at West Hartford Emanuel Synagogue.

The biannual collection gives West Hartford residents and residents of participating MDC towns the opportunity to rid their homes of household hazardous waste.

To drop off household hazardous waste, the MDC advises residents place items in disposable boxes or bins and put it in the trunk of your vehicle. When residents arrive at the drop-off site, they should have identification ready to show residency of a participating town. Volunteers will remove the items from the vehicle, so residents should stay in the car.

For safety, the MDC advises residents not bring pets or children and not smoke in the car, since many hazardous waste materials are flammable.

Items brought to the collection will be recycled, incinerated or placed in landfills, according to the MDC.
