THE WEEKEND GUIDE from Hulafrog West Hartford
Time of another fabulous weekend and we've got your back as usual. Hulafrog has oodles of great activities on tap for you and your kiddos. There’s so much this weekend it’s going to be tough to choose. From a Tree Climbing Competition, to ballet, to a Fishing Derby, festivals, and more our local area has a ton of great events for the whole family to enjoy!

FRIDAY:

Sesame Street Live
That’s right, Elmo and the gang have made their way to Hartford and they’re here to put on a Super show! Sesame Street Live presents Elmo’s Super Heroes. When Super Grover loses his “superness,” Super Elmo and the gang saves the day teaching lessons of healthy habits through song and dance – all in a quest to put the “super” back in Super Grover. Your little ones will love watching their favorite characters come to life. And don’t forget to sport your superhero style for the show!

Music on Ice at Veteran’s Memorial Skating Rink
Your whole gang will love skating and singing at Music On Ice. DJ Ean will be playing Top 40 Hits (plus he’ll be taking requests) AND they’ll have a lights show. Sounds like a perfect night out, especially for the “bigger” kids!

Tales Of Peter Rabbit Ballet
Take your tiny dancer for a special outing. The Ballet Theatre Company presents “Tales of Peter Rabbit & Les Sylphides” this weekend! Your little ballerina or dancing man will love watching this magical story come to life. Make sure to arrive at least 20 minutes before curtain. Have fun!

Vintage Baseball Game
Take your little slugger out for a real old fashioned ball game! Bring your lawn chairs, blanket, picnic lunch and sunscreen...and they'll supply the fun! The first game is played following the 1865 rules and the second follows rules from 1861. That's right, we mean vintage! FREE parking and FREE admission. Game one begins at 11:00 AM and game 2 begins approx. 20 minutes after the conclusion of game one. This is sure to be fun for the whole fam to enjoy!

Connecticut Tree Climbing Competition
How about changing it up this weekend with something truly unique? Have you ever been to a Tree Climbing Competition?! Well, lucky for us the Connecticut Tree Climbing Competition is happening right in our local area. They’ll be showcasing tree care safety and tree climbing skills. This is sure to be a big hit with your outdoor adventurer.

Re: Create CT Festival at Elizabeth Park
Spring is in the air! What better way than to celebrate mother nature than in the picturesque setting of Elizabeth Park. The Re: Create CT Festical is a free holistic and green living event where you can shop unique upcycled artwork for local artisans, preview the farmer’s market season, and enjoy music & activities. The whole gang will enjoy this earth friendly & family friendly festival!

Fishing Derby at Westmoor Park
Calling all fine fishermen to cast a line at Westmoor Park’s Annual Fishing Derby on May 4th. Dust off that fishing pole, stock your tackle box and set your alarm! The fun begins early, dark early, at 6:30 AM. Cause that’s when they’re bitin’! Where: Westmoor Park, West Hartford

Free Admission & Family Day at CT Historical Society
Free, educational, family fun with a craft...sign me up! Teach your little ones about the time honored art of handweaving this weekend. Handweavers will be demonstrating their craft on various looms and spinning wheels. Kids of ALL ages (and adults too) will have the chance to try out several of these weaving tools. Plus they’ll have a special area for kids with hands-on projects to make and take home! And to top it off the museum is FREE all day.

 SUNDAY:

The Little Mermaid Jr.
This family favorite is adapted from Disney’s 2008 Broadway production and features the hit songs “Part of Your World,” “She’s in Love,” and “Under the Sea.” Your little prince or princess will love singing along and will be mesmerized with by the young cast stealing the show!

Super Why Live!  
It’s shaping up to be a super weekend. And to end it with a pow, you can take the kiddos for a super reader adventure to to find the answer to the question, “Who has the Greatest Super Power in the World?” at Super Why Live! This show is sure to be uplifting, entertaining, and educational. Featuring character favorites; Alpha Pig with “Alphabet Power,” Wonder Red with “Word Power,” Princess Presto with “Spelling Power,” Super Why with the “Power to Read,” and their puppy pal Woofster.

Shopping Extravaganza
Feeling like you need to spruce up that Spring closet? Head over the the Mandell JCC for a shopping extravaganza featuring over 20 vendors including Pampered Chef and Stella & Dot. The sale runs for two days so no worries if your weekend is packed, you can catch it on Monday!
