Bates College Honors KO Teacher David Hild

David Hild, an English teacher and coach at Kingswood Oxford School, was inducted into the Scholar-Athlete Society at Bates College on May 24, 2014.

A 1980 graduate of KO and a 1984 graduate of Bates, he was one of four alumni honored by Bates during its Commencement weekend. 

Hild, a West Hartford resident, was an outstanding football and lacrosse player at the prestigious liberal arts college in Lewiston, ME, where he earned a degree in English and a total of eight varsity letters.

In 1982, the Bates football team – on which Hild played as a linebacker -- finished 6-2 and ranked among the top three teams in New England.

On the Bates acrosse team, Hild was a four-year starting defenseman, and led the 1984 team to the only undefeated regular season in school history. The Bobcats were 11-0 before falling to Bowdoin in the ECAC semifinals.

Hild has worked at KO since 1993, and during that time has held a number of positions, including English teacher, senior class advisor, and lacrosse and football coach.

His sons, David and Steven, also played football and lacrosse at KO and at Middlebury and Bates Colleges, respectively. In 2012, David Hild Jr. was drafted by the New York Lizards of Major League Lacrosse.
