KO Junior Places First in West Hartford Library Poetry Contest

Hope Kim, a junior at Kingswood Oxford, placed first in the high school category of the 2013 Teen Poetry Contest sponsored by the West Hartford Public Library. Kim, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Uriah Kim of Hartford, said she wrote the winning poem, “Everyone’s Playground,” during her free time. Her AP English teacher, Heidi Hojnicki, encouraged her to submit it to the library’s contest. Kim’s poem will appear on the teen page of the library web site for the next year. She also received a $50 Barnes and Noble gift certificate. “I love writing in my free time -- especially creative writing,” she said.
