Winning Weekend for Kingswood Oxford's Tennis and Golf Teams

The soggy weather notwithstanding, several Kingswood Oxford teams posted important victories over the Mother’s Day weekend.

  • The Golf team shot a 204 at the very wet, par 36 Crumpin-Fox golf course in Bernardston, MA, on May 11, beating Northfield Mount Hermon School (226) and Wilbraham & Monson Academy (221). Conner Beakey ’13 and Evan Sliker ’15 each shot 38, while John Stepensky ’14 shot 39 and Hunter Sanders ’13 had a 43. The team’s record is now 14-3.
  • At the Coe de Villafranca Tournament at Kent School on Saturday, the Girls’ Tennis team tied with Hotchkiss School for first place; each school garnered 39 points. For the fifth year in a row, Dayna Lord ’13 won the #1 singles draw, while her sister Melissa Lord ’15 won the #2 singles draw for the fourth year in a row. (In 2009, she won the doubles draw.)
  • The Boys’ Tennis team won the Southern New England Tennis League tournament, an eight-school event in which KO is the smallest school (and only day school). The victory was led by Mark Toubman ’13, who won the #1 singles draw (3-6, 7-5, and 10-1 in the super-tiebreaker) as well as the #1 doubles draw, playing with Matt Lord ’17. Lord also won the #2 draw in straight sets (6-3, 6-4). Jacob Appleton ’16 and Austin Briggs ’16 won the #2 doubles draw.
In addition, Toubman was honored (along with Jagger Riefler ’13 of Taft) with the Alban Barker Sportsmanship Award, given to a player in the league who has demonstrated great sportsmanship throughout the season and his career.
