Preview of CREC Arts Academy Presents 'To Judy, with Love A 90th Birthday Celebration'

The students will celebrate the legend Judy Garland

On September 29 & 30, 2012, students from the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC)’s Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts will present a 90th Birthday Celebration honoring the legendary talents of movie musical superstar Judy Garland. In collaboration with John Fricke, author and Garland historian, the students will present a pastiche performance of song and dance as a fundraiser for the Musical Theater Department. John Fricke will spend a week with students from the CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, educating them about Garland and mentoring them through the creation and rehearsal of the performance. The performance will be called To Judy, with Love, and will be presented under the direction of CREC’s Arts Academy Musical Theater Department Chair, Eric Larivee. Songs performed will include “The Trolley Song”, “Get Happy”, and, Garland’s well known tune, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” 

To Judy, with Love will be held on September 29, 2012 at 7:30 pm.  and September 30, 2012 at 2:00 pm. at the Theater of the Performing Arts, located in the Learning Corridor on the campus of the CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts. Free parking is available in the Learning Corridor parking garage.

Tickets are $25/$15 for adults and $15/$10 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased online by visiting our website http://www.crec.org/theater, by phone Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at (860) 757-6388, or in person at the box office of the Theater of the Performing Arts, 359 Washington Street, Hartford,CT 06106 (please note: additional charges apply to online orders).  The Theater is three blocks south of Hartford Hospital, across the street from the Institute of Living. Please call ahead for best service. Proceeds from the performance support programs at the CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts.
