Create a Holiday Tradition...

Every year on the first weekend of December, the Noah Webster House fills with kids, parents, families, and friends who have come to take part in a growing tradition: building a gingerbread house. Gingerbread Day began in 2006 when local entrepreneur Christine Brooks stopped by the museum to sell her Spicebrook Forest products in the shop. Christine had been making gingerbread houses with her daughters for years, and loves sharing the tradition with anyone and everyone.

Your family and friends can share in the tradition at the 8th Annual Gingerbread Day this December on Friday the 6th and Saturday the 7th. You can construct a homemade creation from fresh gingerbread, icing, and delicious candies. From elfin snowball fights to stars of David, from Christmas trees to tropical beaches, it's incredible the amount of creativity you'll find when you hand someone a pile of shaped cookies!

All of the houses are baked using the special recipes and cookie cutters from Spicebrook Forest and each cookie is handmade.

We suggest that participants take a few minutes to let their house 'set' while the icing dries, giving them plenty of time to take a tour of the historic house (regular admission applies), play in Noah's Discovery Learning Space, check out the museum shop, or see one of our exhibits.

Registration is required for each of the four sessions, since they nearly always sell out.  Times include 6:30 p.m. on Friday, December 6, and 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 7. The workshop fee is $15 per house ($12 for museum members); instruction and materials are included. Visit www.NoahWebsterHouse.org to register, or call 860-521-5362 x21. Space is limited, so a maximum of two people may work on each house kit.
