Northwest Catholic Marks Respect Life Month

Northwest Catholic has been marking Respect Life Month with a variety of prayerful activities and informative talks. Each Friday, the school holds adoration in the chapel, with students, faculty and staff praying for a greater respect for all human life, from conception to natural death, and an end to abortion. The subject has also been a topic of discussion in classes as well as on the freshman retreat, and the school collected diapers to donate to St. Gerard’s Center for Life in Hartford, which provides help and support for pregnant women in crisis.

In addition, on October 22, Mary Lou Peters, Assistant Program Coordinator of the Archdiocese of Hartford’s Pro-Life Ministry, addressed students about the 40 Days for Life campaign, which seeks to end abortion through prayer, fasting, and vigils at abortion clinics nationwide for 40 days from late September to early November. Peters spoke to the students about the history and goals of the 40 Days for Life campaign and told stories about her experience as a part of the campaign – including examples of women who changed their minds about having an abortion after witnessing the vigilers of the 40 Days for Life campaign. Peters’ message to the students was “Always be proud to be pro-life,” encouraging them to become the future leaders of the pro-life movement.

Since 1961, Northwest Catholic’s mission has been to educate the whole person: mind, body, spirit, and soul. Enrollment for the Class of ’18 is now under way, and prospective students are invited to the Open House at Northwest Catholic on November 3, 2013.
