Northwest Catholic Seniors Announce Plans to Compete in DII and DIII College Sports

Twelve seniors at Northwest Catholic have announced their intention to compete in Division II, Division III or NAIA college athletics next year.
 
These students are in addition to fifteen seniors who have already committed to high-level athletic programs.

Together, these 27 students who will be playing sports in college represent 17% of the Class of ’13.

“Their hard work in the classroom and in their respective sports has put these students in this fantastic position,” said NWC Athletic Director Matt Martorelli ‘03. “As a community, we are so proud and excited to see and hear their stories over the next four years.”

The DII- and DIII-bound athletes from the Class of ’13 are:
  • Arnoldo Ballestas III of Hartford – Western Connecticut State University (Football and Lacrosse)
  • Emma Banevicius of West Hartford – Manhattanville College (Volleyball)
  • Alison Connors of West Hartford– Springfield College (Basketball)
  • J’Leen Diaz of Hartford – Castleton State College (Volleyball)
  • Sadie Martinez of Hartford – University of the Cumberlands (Golf)
  • Colin McCarthy of Glastonbury – Bentley University (Swimming)
  • Kathleen Sarpu of South Windsor– Babson College (Basketball)
  • Devin Stewart of Bloomfield– Husson University (Football)
  • Christopher Thomas of Weatogue – Husson University (Football)
  • Alejandro Tobon of West Hartford – Eastern Connecticut State University (Soccer)
  • Edwin Vincens of West Hartford– Tufts University (Sailing)
  • Kristen Young of Bloomfield – Suffolk University (Softball)
