Elio Greco, 83, beloved husband of the late Eleanor (Zimmerman) Greco, of West Hartford, died Thursday, June 19, 2014, at his home.

Born in Siracusa, Sicily, Italy, he came to Hartford at age 17, with nothing more than a cardboard suitcase wrapped in twine. Elio personified the American dream. He made his home in West Hartford in 1970.

He began working for Royal Typewriter in 1948. He then learned the pluming trade and had a long and successful career as a foreman for Long Hill and ABC Plumbing thru the 1950's and 60's then finished his career at Trinity College after 23 years of employment. He was an accomplished real estate investor owning and managing multiple properties in the City of Hartford.

He was proud of his Italian heritage and was active in the Italian American Stars, the Floridian Society in Hartford, and traveled back to Italy often. He was a frequent visitor of Atlantic City with his wife Eleonor, where they enjoyed playing poker, going to dinner and catching a show.

Elio was always quick with a smile, a joke, had a big heart and always gave more to his relationships than he took. You would have been lucky to call Elio "friend". He was a devoted family man and took pride in the titles of Father and Grandfather. One of his greatest accomplishments was to see his two sons graduate from college, where they were first in the family to achieve this.

His two grandchildren were the light of his life and would do anything for them. A visit with "Nonno" wouldn't be complete without a big hug, kiss and a new chocolate bar which he had in ready supply.

He is survived by his devoted sons, Garry Greco and his wife Shari of Farmington, Glenn Greco and his wife Geraldine of Hartford; his special grandchildren Nicolas and Mia Greco; and many cousins in Italy.

He was predeceased by his twin sister Laura Blusiewicz.

The funeral will be Thursday, June 26, at 9:15 a.m. from the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m.in the Church of St. Timothy, 1116 North Main St., West Hartford. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.

Calling hours are Wednesday, June 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Molloy Funeral Home.
