Jason Yow-Bor Chyi, 63; Worked in Data Processing for Hartford Firms

Calling hours and services are scheduled for Saturday, June 28.

Jason Yow-Bor Chyi, 63, beloved husband and father, died at home on Sunday, June 22, 2014, surrounded by his family after a seven-month battle with cancer.

Born in Tainan, Taiwan, Jason moved to the United States to study at Utah State University, from which he graduated with a forestry degree in 1974. He then worked in data processing at Aetna, The Hartford, and IBM until retirement.

Jason is survived by Mayyun, his wife of 39 years, his three children Leo, Jennifer, and Stanley Chyi, his son-in-law Spencer Kaplan and his grandson Emmett Chyi Kaplan. He also leaves behind his sister, Eva Chang.

Jason had a very kind and generous spirit, and he was always happy to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed watching baseball, especially when the Taiwanese pitcher Wei-Yin Chen was playing for the Baltimore Orioles. He also loved to play tennis and ping pong. In recent years, Jason enjoyed trips to Alaska, Costa Rica, Italy, Greece, and Turkey, and he wished to travel even more. Jason’s favorite hobby was gardening at his plot at the West Hartford community garden, and he happily shared his harvest with friends.

The family wishes to say a special thank you to friends and to his medical professionals for their care and comfort.

A 2 p.m. memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 28, at Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, with guests invited to arrive beginning at 1:30.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the non-profit Friends of Acadia to benefit Jason’s favorite national park (www.friendsofacadia.org).
