Jean Waszkelewicz, 83; Accomplished Artist, Retired Nurse

Jean (Piotrowski) Waszkelewicz, 83, of West Hartford, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Middlesex Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born in Bridgeport on May 7, 1931, the daughter of the late Dennis and Alice (Pawlicka) Piotrowski.

She made her home in West Hartford for most of her life. Jean graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Hartford and practiced nursing in Key West, FL and Connecticut. Jean was a loving and very busy mother of six, grandmother to seven and great-grandmother of three. 

Besides her children, the other big passion in her life was creating art. Jean was masterful in many mediums, starting with oil painting. While she was raising her children, at one time she owned and operated a ceramic studio in Farmington. She was a highly accomplished painter, made beautiful mosaics, vases, and plates. She was well known for her masterful needle work. After she retired as a nurse she moved to Jupiter Florida where she continued her passion of painting, taking classes at a local art studio.

She is survived by her five children; Michael Waszkelewicz and his wife Mary of Marlborough, Paul Waszkelewicz and his wife Carrie of Glastonbury, Donna Murray and her husband Frank of West Chester, PA., Kathy Waszkelewicz of Jupiter, FL., Mary Waszkelewicz of Lincoln, MA; her daughter-in-law Kymm St. Pierre of Plainville, her seven grandchildren; Brett and Kyle Waszkelewicz, Molly and Sam Waszkelewicz, Conor and his wife Theresa, Ryan and Chelsea Murray; and three great-grandchildren; Ronan, Josie, and Bella Murray.

She was predeceased by her son John Waszkelewicz in December 18, 2011.

The funeral will be Wednesday, July 2, beginning with visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, followed by a funeral service at 6 p.m.
