Patch's Poll: What Do You Think of the Roger Clemens Verdict?

Was it incompetence on the part of the U.S. Justice Department? Did he get to walk because he's a famous baseball star, or was the evidence too weak?

The not guilty verdict in the Roger Clemens trial this week was big news well outside of the sports world.

It marked yet another high-profile case against a famous person where the federal government has sought, and failed, to convict on criminal charges. It also came on the heels of the Justice Department’s failure to get a guilty verdict, a few weeks back, in former vice-presidential candidate John Edwards's case.

While some sports writers, like Mike Lupica, lambasted the government for its weak case against Clemens, other observers, such as Washington Post columnist Mike Wise, talked about how Clemens was able to walk, in part, because he is famous.

Still others have opined that Justice Department lawyers unfairly bring such cases against celebrities because they are headline-grabbing cases.
