Patch's Poll: What Do You Think of the Roger Clemens Verdict?

Was it incompetence on the part of the U.S. Justice Department? Did he get to walk because he's a famous baseball star, or was the evidence too weak?

The not guilty verdict in the Roger Clemens trial this week was big news well outside of the sports world.

It marked yet another high-profile case against a famous person where the federal government has sought, and failed, to convict on criminal charges. It also came on the heels of the Justice Department’s failure to get a guilty verdict, a few weeks back, in former vice-presidential candidate John Edwards's case.

While some sports writers, like Mike Lupica, lambasted the government for its weak case against Clemens, other observers, such as Washington Post columnist Mike Wise, talked about how Clemens was able to walk, in part, because he is famous.

Still others have opined that Justice Department lawyers unfairly bring such cases against celebrities because they are headline-grabbing cases.

So, what do you think? Take our poll on this issue and share your thoughts in our comments.

How about a choice that says the government should not be persecutiong or prosecuting private citizens for lying to them when we can not persecute or prosecute congress for lying to us.

Where does the Constitution give congress the power to investigate doping in sports? How much money have they wasted on this and the Barry Bonds trial? Maybe they should consider passing a budget instead.

The world knows what Roger did! Roger knows what he did! Just because a few corrupt millionaire politicians said he didn't doesn't make him innocent...

Larry it was a jury who said he is innocent not politicians get your facts straight. the politicians are the ones who had him tried. Sounds like you just hate Clemens because he left the red sox . The person who made the claim is a rapist but you believe anything he says against a player you don't like. Larry get your facts straight there were no politicians on the jury, nor were there any millionaires on the jury. The prosecution failed to prove their case and lost. there was no corruption to help clemens. NICE TRY
