Weather & Real Estate

I am a skier, I LOVE when it snows in Vermont.

I don't need a flake in my backyard.

So I think it is official. As of this morning the only people in Greater Hartford excited for all this snow are kids and companies that plow.

Weather is the unknown challenge in all business, and real estate is no exception.  If it's too nice out, people don't want to look at houses.  If it's too cold, people don't want to look at houses. This winter has caused a few new construction projects to come to a screeching halt.  It also affects home inspections and closings.

According to Mark Steier with Steier & McCormick in West Hartford www.stmclaw.com, there have been weather related disruptions with closing times and dates but, the more significant concern is the overall lack of activity. "I think the bigger problem is less activity because of the cold, snowy weather" said Steier. "My expectation is the pent up demand will translate into more transactions as the weather improves."

So if you are thinking of buying or selling in the near future and are homebound today take the time to clean out a closet, paint a room, or organize your files.  We should have more activity as the weather improves, and that would be exciting for everyone.

In the meantime, happy sledding kids!
