What Does Your Dog Food Really Cost?

As the old saying goes: “you get what you pay for.” Never is this more true then when it comes to your pet’s food.  So the question remains: what does your dog’s food really cost, and are the less expensive foods really less expensive.  We decided to take a closer look.  First we need to disclose a few assumptions we made.  The first, we assumed a 50 pound, average active, adult dog. Next we measured out and weighted a cup of our recommended dog food: Petcurean’s Go adult dog chicken. We then assumed that all the brands had the same weight per cup (a relatively save assumption). In determining the daily feeding guidelines we took averages to determine the accurate cups needed per day for a 50 pound dog.  Next we assumed the most economical way to buy each food was the largest bag: again a safe assumption.  Lastly we rated the quality of each dog food by looking them up by an independent website, www.dogfoodadvisor.com.

So what does your dog food really cost you:

A five star food costs ……………………………………$1.01 per day
