UConn Campus in West Hartford Reopens After Most Recent Bomb Threat

Incident was at least the fifth since the school year started.

UPDATE: The University of Connecticut's Greater Hartford Campus in West Hartford will reopen at noon after a morning bomb threat. After a sweep of the campus, security officials declared it safe and said classes and activities would resume this afternoon.

The campus has been plagued by bomb threats this school year. Wednesday's was the second in two weeks and at least the fifth since October.

"After a search of the Greater Hartford UConn campus in West Hartford by UConn Police and Connecticut State Police bomb detection canines, the campus has been cleared and will reopen at 12 noon," the school's Web site said. "UConn Police continue to investigate the bomb threat and further information will be released as it becomes available. Anyone with information pertaining to this threat is asked to contact UConn Police at 860-486-4800 or email UConn police at crimealerts@uconn.edu."

Just before 9 a.m., the school announced to students via the university's alert system that all classes and events before noon had been canceled.

The campus was also evacuated April 6 after a bomb threat was written on a chalkboard in the admissions building.

Police also investigated bomb threats on the West Hartford campus Feb. 7, Oct. 19, and Oct. 21, according to reports. In some cases, classes were in session and examinations were scheduled.
