A suspected drunk driver left a bit of destruction in her wake in West Hartford Center in the early morning hours Sunday.
The driver of a silver Volvo station wagon traveling south on South Main Street squeezed her car between a sign and a fence and subsequently crashed in between the Radio Shack and Harry’s Pizza at 39 S. Main St., according to police and business employees.
The driver, a female, then allegedly backed up her vehicle and continued south on South Main Street, crossing the double yellow lines and going up onto a curb, taking down a small tree and crashing into the sign at 80 S. Main St.
No one was reported injured in the incident, which took place around 3 a.m. A contractor was able to make temporary repairs to make it safe for Radio Shack and Harry’s customers.
“If it was going to happen, at least it happened when people weren’t around,” Harry’s employee Sabra Ionno said of the accident. “It was an interesting way to come into work.”
Both Harry’s and Radio Shack had minor damage, but were open for business on Sunday. A window at Radio Shack and a window at Harry’s were shattered and the wall separating the two businesses also was damaged.Police did not have additional information and were expected to release the incident report on Monday.
