1 Fatal Accident Over Memorial Day Weekend

There were more accidents this holiday weekend when compared to 2011, but they were not as deadly, state police report.

The Connecticut State Police Memorial Day enforcement period began at midnight on Friday, May 25, and continued until midnight on Monday, May 28, according to a press release from Connecticut State Police Commanding Officer Lt. J. Paul Vance.

The enforcement efforts produced the following results:

  •  Total Accidents Investigated: 279
  • Accidents With Injuries: 57
  • Fatal Accidents: 1 ()
  •  DWI Arrests: 77
  • Seatbelt Arrests: 816
  • Speeding Arrests: 1,797

On Memorial Day Weekend in 2011, Connecticut State Police investigated 260 motor vehicles accidents and four fatal crashes. Troopers made 70 drunk driving arrests and issued 2,013 speeding tickets and 978 seatbelt tickets.

Connecticut State Troopers will continue enforcement efforts as the summer months begin, the press release said. The “Click It Or Ticket” Campaign, the first campaign of this summer season, will continue over the summer months. The goal of the state police enforcement effort is to rid the roads of aggressive and impaired and unsafe drivers, the press release noted.
