Fire Consumes Garage; Declared Suspicious

Damage to the garage was extensive, but no injuries reported.

Investigators are reporting that an overnight fire in a garage at 31 Caya Ave. appears to be of suspicious origin, the West Hartford Fire Department said in a release.

Fire officials responded at 2:37 a.m. Monday to a report from a resident of 43 Caya Ave. who reported seeing the fire from their apartment, the fire department said in a release. The report indicates that upon arrival on the scene, they found a two-car garage "well-involved in fire."

According to the release, the damage to the garage was extensive but fire personnel were able to save both cars in the garage. No injuries were reported.

The incident is continuing to be investigated by both the West Hartford Fire and Police Departments, fire officials said.

Units responded from station 1 (Prospect Ave.) and 2 (Brace Rd.). The fire department reports that the fire was declared under control by 2:51 a.m., and the scene was cleared at 4:38 a.m.
