Hartford Police Find Missing West Hartford Girl

The 13-year-old girl was discovered in a car in Keney Park early Sunday morning with a Bloomfield man.

A young teen who had been missing from the Bridge Shelter for several weeks was found by Hartford Police in a car in Keney Park at approximately 7:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.

According to Hartford Police, officers on patrol observed a vehicle illegally parked in Keney Park at 7:32 a.m. Sunday. Inside the vehicle they found Andre Nelson, 36, who was allegedly smoking marijuana.

Hartford Police said that a 13-year-old girl was a passenger in the vehicle with Nelson.

According to Hartford Police, the "victim made no claims of sexual assault" and appeared to be unharmed. She was taken to St. Francis Hospital as a precaution, and then released to the custody of the state Department of Children and Families.

West Hartford police said that the girl, who is a juvenile, was a "habitual runaway" from the Bridge shelter in West Hartford. An amber alert had not been issued for her disappearance.

Nelson was arrested on several charges, including risk of injury and drug-related charges. Additional details were not available Sunday night.
