I-84 Car Fire Extinguished by West Hartford Fire Department

Owner of the vehicle was not at the scene.

The assisted Connecticut State Police with a car fire on I-84 Monday evening.

The West Hartford Fire Department was called in at 7:43 p.m. Monday, and responded to a car fire on I-84 eastbound. The vehicle was located between Exit 43 (Park Rd.) and Exit 44 (Prospect Ave.).

Fire Department officials said that upon arrival at the scene they found a Jeep Cherokee "fully involved in fire on the right hand side of the road." Engine #5 (Berkshire Road) and Engine #1 (Prospect Ave.), as well as the Battalion Chief, responded to the fire.

Battalion Chief Matt Stuart reported that the fire was extinguished in 20 minutes, and there were no injuries to fire department personnel.

The vehicle was unoccupied, and neither the owner nor any apparent occupants were at the scene.

State police are investigating, Battalion Chief Stuart said.
