K-9 Attempts to Find Driver Who Crashed Into Telephone Poles

West Hartford Police found a large amount of cash at the scene, and are still investigating the accident which occurred on South Main St. early Saturday morning.

West Hartford Police are investigating an automobile accident which occurred early Saturday morning on South Main St. which involved a driver who allegedly fled the scene.

According to police, the incident was reported at 1:52 a.m., and when they arrived at the scene in the area of 346 South Main. St., they found a severely-damaged vehicle, one telephone pole broken completely in half, and another pole that was cracked.

The driver could not be located police said. A K-9 search was conducted, and the driver was not located although the K-9 took police on a track to the area of South Main St. and I-84.

According to police, a large amount of cash was found at the scene, inside the vehicle as well as scattered around the outside, and was taken into evidence.

Police said that they have contacted the vehicle's registered owner, and believe that person was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the accident. The investigation is ongoing and the name is not being released at this time, police said.

South Main St. was closed for several hours as the incident was being  investigated and CL&P replaced the telephone poles.
