K9 Tracks Teen Charged with Axe Damage at Rockledge Golf Club

Three individuals, including two juveniles, were charged in the incident.

West Hartford Police have charged an 18-year-old resident and two juveniles with damage caused by an axe to a maintenance building on the grounds of Rockledge Golf Club.

Adam Khan, 18, of 49 Belcrest Rd., West Hartford, has been charged in the incident which was took place late Saturday night. Two juveniles have also been arrested by West Hartford Police.

According to police, units responded to an alarm activated at Rockledge Country Club at 289 South Main St. at 11:43 p.m. They discovered a "large sledge hammer/axe" on the ground near a maintenance building on the property.

According to the police report, they observed that two garage door windows had been smashed and one of the doors "had a large cut in it, which appeared to have been made from the axe that was lying on the ground."

Several sets of footprints were also observed in the dew "coming from the south, walking northbound across the golf course towards the maintenance building," police said.

K9 Jett was deployed by Officer Lazure, police said, and the dog tracked the scent northwest, ending in the rear yard of 49 Belcrest Rd., a road that borders the golf course to the north. 

Police said that a male party came out of the residence after they knocked on the door several times.

Police said that during the tracking a black rubber hammer was also found on the golf course, west of the maintenance building. Entry to the building was not gained, they said.
 
Khan and the two juveniles were charged with first degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal mischief, sixth-degree larceny, and manufacture/possession of burglar's tools.

Khan was released on $25,000 surety bond, police said. He is due in court on April 25.
