Man in Custody a 'Person of Interest' in West Hartford Church Burglaries

Police are following leads, but suspect has not yet been charged in West Hartford.

 

The Hartford man arrested last Thursday is a "person of interest" in the in West Hartford, but "no arrests are imminent," Captain Donald Melanson said Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Hartford Courant, Jackie Barry, 46, was arrested by Wethersfield Police inside the First Church of Christ in Old Wethersfield on Thursday. The Courant reported that he is a suspect in other area church burglaries, but questioning by law enforcement officials had to be interrupted when Barry was hospitalized for withdrawal symptoms from a drug habit.

According to Melanson, Barry is currently being held for the incidents in Wethersfield. The Courant also reported that Barry was arrested for an incident in East Hartford which occurred on Jan. 25.

Barry had been previously arrested and charged with several home burglaries, Melanson said, but had been released from custody.

Melanson said that West Hartford Police are still investigating and following up on leads. He confirmed that there have been no further church break-ins in West Hartford since Barry's arrest.
