New Britain Woman Charged With Manslaughter

Police say she was drunk, speeding, and may have caused the March 30 accident.

Karen Torres of New Britain has been arrested in connection with the death of Donavan Alden, a 32 year-old paramedic from Avon.

Torres, 33, is being charged with driving while intoxicated during the March 30 car accident that killed Alden. Her blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit at the time of the crash.

Torres will also be charged with second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, DWI, reckless driving, traveling unreasonably fast, and failure to drive in a proper lane.

Torres, who is still recovering from injuries sustained during the crash, was released on a $75,000 bond and returned to a rehabilitation facility. She is scheduled to appear in court on June 5.
