Police: 8 Vehicles Broken Into Overnight, 1 Stolen

West Hartford Police urge residents to take steps to protect their personal belongings.

A West Hartford neighborhood experienced a rash of car burglaries Monday night.

Police said eight vehicles were broken into and one stolen from Walkley, Farnham, and Dorset roads in the eastern Farmington Avenue/Fern Street area. Officers discovered the burglaries during their patrols prior to any residential complaints.

Entry to four of the eight vehicles was gained by smashing a window, according to police.

"Most often than not the suspects are not going to break windows to enter a vehicle unless they observe valuables in plain view," said Lt. Ted Stoneburner. "We ask our citizens to use common sense in regards to leaving valuables in their vehicle. Don’t leave pocketbooks, wallets, laptops, cellphones, GPS units, change in the cup holders or any item of value out in the open."

While investigating, officers noticed a pile of glass in the driveway of 39 Farnham Road, but a vehicle was not there. They later determined that a 2013 grey Nissan Sentra, bearing CT license plate 866ZVS, was stolen out of the driveway.
