Police: Fight Erupts at West Hartford Diner After Man is Mistaken for Aaron Hernandez

Three men were charged in the brawl which took place early Saturday morning at the Gold Roc Diner. Police said the man involved in the mistaken identity may have been Hernandez's brother.

Three men have been charged for their role in a fight at the Gold Roc Diner in West Hartford that started when a patron mistakenly thought another patron was Aaron Hernandez, West Hartford Police said.

According to Lt. Frank Fallon of the West Hartford Police, the incident began shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday when a man walked into the diner at 61 Kane St. and yelled, "Hey, Aaron Hernandez," to a patron who was sitting in a booth with two other men.

According to the police report, another patron shouted back an obscenity, and that sparked a fight.

A woman sitting at a nearby booth was punched in the face and pushed to the ground but refused medical attention, according to the police report. Two men also sustained facial lacerations but declined treatment, police said.

Three men were charged in the incident, including Alberto Lopez, 30, of 200 Blakeslee St., Bristol, and Jesus Agosto, 36, of 87 Rocky Hill Ave., New Britain, who were the men sitting in the booth with the man thought to be Hernandez. According to Fallon, Lopez and Agosto said they were with DJ Hernandez, Aaron Hernandez's brother.

"We have no proof that he was DJ Hernandez," Fallon said. The man was not involved in the altercation, and just got up and left, Fallon said. He was neither located nor interviewed, and the last known whereabouts of DJ Hernandez were that he was a football coach out west, according to Fallon.

According to the University of Iowa's sports network, hawkeyesports.com, DJ Hernandez – who is a former Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year (2003); a 2009 graduate of UConn where he was a two-year captain; and a former head coach at Southington High School – is currently a first year graduate assistant coach at Iowa.

Lopez and Agosto, as well as Thomas Miller, 30, of 68 Iowa St., Torrington, were charged in the Saturday morning incident with third-degree assault, breach of peace, and third-degree criminal mischief. They were released on $5,000 non-surety bond and all three are due back in court on July 11.

Former Patriots star Aaron Hernandez, who is a Bristol native, was charged last week with the murder of Odin Lloyd and is currently being held without bond.
