Police Looking for Man Who Stole $40K Diamond

Police are asking for help locating a suspect who reportedly stole a diamond worth thousands of dollars from Michael's Jewelers at Westfarms mall.

According to the Farmington Police, an African-American male in his late 30s went to the jewelery store pretending to be a customer on Tuesday around noon and asked to see a diamond valued at $40,000. When the clerk handed the man the diamond, he fled, police said.

The suspect is said to be 6 feet tall, thin, with a shaved or bald head and large earrings in each ear that look like square clusters of stones. At the time, the suspect was wearing blue jeans, tan work boots, a blue and white cross-striped shirt and glasses.

The man reportedly left the mall in a black, four-door Chevy Cruz with Florida registration N274GA. The plate was reported stolen in Meriden on Monday, police said.

Police said the vehicle was driven by an older Black man wearing a white t-shirt.
