Police Step Up Holiday Traffic Patrols

A reminder -- and a warning -- to drive responsibly

are increasing traffic patrols for the holiday season, targeting drunk and distracted drivers.

Capt. Donald Melanson, head of the traffic division, said West Hartford police made four DUI arrests from Dec. 7 to Dec. 12. There were 33 citations for distracted driving.

The statistics are up from the same period last year, Capt. Melanson said. In the six-day period in 2009, West Hartford police made one DUI arrest and cited 25 motorists for driving while distracted.
